'DISASTERS' FROM THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR!
With nothing to point my camera at, due to the dreaded virus, I had a look in my archives. Inspired some years ago by Linesider 1's hilarious When Linesiding goes Bad I started to keep my out-takes which previously I would have erased. This video contains a small selection of shots that didn't quite go to plan. It is only with the passage of time that I can crack a smile! By the way, if anyone challenges my use of 'Disaster' as being a bit strong one English Dictionary definition is; "an event or fact that has unfortunate consequences."

WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE... SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY FEBRUARY HALF TERM 2020
Просмотров 23 тыс.4 года назад
I have been visiting the River Severn for sixty years but never have I seen it as high as this. I blame Brexit!! The locomotives in action on Wednesday 19th February were Standard 4 no. 75069 and Ivatt 4 no. 43106. A dry morning was followed by a wet afternoon but fortunately we had a respite from the strong winds of Storm Dennis. I have shown a few scenes of angry Sabrina!
FIRST DAY OF THE GREAT CENTRAL WINTER STEAM GALA 2020
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.4 года назад
Friday January 24th was a typical English January day cold, damp but relatively calm. The guest engines at the gala were LNER K1 62005 and Great Western Hall Class 4953 Pitchford Hall. The other locomotives featured here are; Black 5 45305, 6990 Witherslack Hall, 73156 and a glimpse of 46521 warming up for the morrow. Time keeping slipped 10 minutes from the start and by early afternoon, to par...
BATTLEFIELD LINE WINTER WARMER STEAM GALA 4th JANUARY 2020
Просмотров 4,9 тыс.4 года назад
“Some bright periods” is Met Office speak for “Mainly cloudy”. So it was on Saturday January 4th, the first day of The Battlefield Line Winter Warmer Steam Gala and my first outing of 2020. Working the through trains were 6989 Wightwick Hall, pronounced Witick, and small Prairie 5526. The ‘local’ train was worked by 5542 coupled to a two car DMU, unorthodox perhaps but effective as it provided ...
BRITISH STANDARD LOCOMOTIVE PANORAMA
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.4 года назад
Following Nationalisation in 1948 the Standard locomotives were introduced by British Railways from 1951 onwards using, what was thought to be, the best locomotive practices of the of the 'Big Four' companies i.e GWR, SR, LMS and LNER. Thankfully, a large number of the locomotives have been preserved and this video, the third in Parsound's Panorama series, features all the various classes apart...
CHASEWATER RAILWAY SANTA SPECIALS, 1st DECEMBER 2019
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.4 года назад
December 1st was the second day of the 'Santa Special' series on Chasewater Railway. The weather forecast was for full sun all day which didn't quite materialize but nevertheless some superb light showed through particularly in the late afternoon. By their very nature, the 'Santas' do not produce spectacular running although the low temperature provided some nice exhaust effects. Besides walkin...
46100 ROYAL SCOT ON TEST ON THE SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY 21 11 2019
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.4 года назад
Our Thursday working day at Eardington coincided with 'Royal Scot' performing several test runs from Bridgnorth to Highley and back. It was indeed a pleasure to tidy the platform flower beds in between the Scot passing through. As the light faded I went to Highley to film the engine running round although by then it was quite dark. As well as the Scot performing, Tornado was also in steam on Br...
GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY 'LAST HURRAH' 17 11 2019
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.4 года назад
The 17th November 2019 dawned misty and damp but calm. The Great Central's 'Last Hurrah' is one of my favourite galas so. in spite of the weather I was determined to go. As usual, it lived up to expectation even though the rain started at lunchtime and I abandoned at 3-00pm with an acceptable set of shots 'in the can'. I usually try to avoid tender first running on passenger trains but couldn't...
THE BATTLEFIELD LINE'S 50th ANNIVERSARY GALA 18th OCTOBER 2019
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.4 года назад
I made a brief visit to The Battlefield Line's 50th Anniversary Gala on the 18th October 2019. Three locomotives were running on the first day when I attended: 6989 Wightwick Hall, 7820 Dinmore Manor and Small Prairie 5542. The Hall had only been in service for less than a year and was absolutely immaculate following a lengthy restoration at Quainton Road. Dinmore Manor normally resides at the ...
CHASEWATER RAILWAY 'MOVING THE GOODS WEEKEND' 13th OCTOBER 2019
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.4 года назад
Whilst the forecast for Sunday 13th was for heavy rain with a moderate wind it turned out to be showery with bright skies later, for a while! I decided to take a chance and film in the morning, parking my car near the crossing gates at Brownhills West so that I could shelter under the hatch if necessary. Although this tied me to filming the Brownhills yard it suited my purpose as my friend, Bri...

Fellow Bulleid fan, John Oates, invited my wife and me to join him and his partner on a trip to the Gloucester & Warwickshire Railway to ride behind P&O on it's last rostered day of the current season. Joining the train at Toddington we rode to Broadway where we had time to inspect the station. To say that we were impressed is an understatement. We then rode behind 35006, running chimney first,...
GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY 2019 AUTUMN STEAM GALA
Просмотров 5 тыс.4 года назад
‘Recreating the experience of a busy mainline in the age of steam’, was the subtitle of the Autumn Steam Gala on the first weekend in October 2019. They certainly achieved this as I saw eight different engines in the first hour and a quarter that I was there on the Saturday. I arrived at 08-30 and left at 18-00, tired but happy. Rarely running more than a few minutes late the performance by the...
SEVERN VALLEY AUTUMN DIESEL GALA 2019, DAY ONE
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.4 года назад
Thursday, October 3rd 2019, the first day of the gala, was overcast but with the occasional ray of sunshine. By the end of the afternoon it was raining hard. I have departed from my usual editing format, that is grouping the shots of each engine together, as I moved around constantly, hence giving location variety, so the scenes are in chronological order. The video commences with, rather incon...
1450 SETS BACK TO TRY AGAIN

On the Saturday evening of the SVR Autumn Gala I dropped into Bridgnorth to do some night shots. I was just in time to catch 1450 about to set back having ground to halt whilst attempting to leave Platform 2 with four teak coaches. She eventually got away with a pyrotechnic display. I was fortunate in being able to attend the first three days of the gala; September 19th to 21st 2019. The weather on all three days was ideal being that lovely early autumn sunshine that we often get for a few days in England. I have grouped the various locomotives in numerical or...

It's obvious whoever took these pictures is not a steam train enthusiast you can tell by the angles that the pictures were taken to this photographer when you're taking pictures of something like this you need to take pictures of such things as the shape size of cylinders how the boilers mounted is it mounted on a frame or are the hardware directly mounted to the boilers that's what you need to be taking pictures of the controls the type and size of Wheels and their locations and tons of other things that pointing the camera at the front end of a steam engine all you're looking at is down the boiler you need to be taking pictures of the mechanics does the train have suspension or is it mounted directly on the frame all those things are the important things about a train you're not taking pictures of deer for taking pictures of 100-year-old piece of mechanical art and 19th century an engineering that's what we're interested in not what color cows scooper is

I do remember the days of steam, but not how great steam locomotives are. I was only 8 years old at the time and didn't understand that they would dissappear, thank goodness for railway preservation societys up and down the country. A fantastic opportunity to relive the romance of steam, a great day out.

Stevensons link motion is very common on traction engines, but you don't see it on railway locos very often. They usually opted for something that only needed one link, rather than a pair. Keep the width down. Nice old machine. It'll be back.
